When a bunch of guys born with a 3D printed spoon in their mouth get together to build a hardware business (Mantis Composites) there is one thing to get out of the way first: build a 3D printer. We needed a big printer to build all of our machines for Mantis, so we built one of the largest FDM printers out there. Turns out we are not the only ones who needed access to massive 3D printed parts. Now, sales revenue from the printer partially funds development at Mantis Composites.
With parts designed for full CNC routers, this printer is designed for serious prints. Narwhal (our internal name for the printer) is twice as fast as consumer printers, and has a variety of improvements to produce extraordinary part strength for an FDM printer.
With such massive heaters, the printer needs to be in an insulating reflective box to conserve power and maintain heat. The box also helps prevent warping of parts.
